Winter in Zurich

During the winter months from the terrace at ALEX we’re looking at the snow capped mountains. Just 45 minutes away the slopes bekon and promise a fun-packed day. Downhill or Cross Country, snowboarding or snow shoe walking, hiking or sledding. A day on the snow and apre-ski by the lake, the ALEX Guest Services team will make the best recommendations and help organise everything before you arrive.

The winter season runs from November until March, sometimes stretching until the end of April. Contact us in advance for the latest forecast.

ALEX likes nothing better than a day out on the slopes

Downhill Skiing
The skiing areas Hoch-Ybrig (50km slopes) and Flumserberg (65 km slopes) are only a 45 minutes’ drive away and we know where to park. You can even ask ALEX to prepare a lunch-box for you.

Cross Country Skiing
We have the local knowledge on some fantastic trails nearby (30-60 min drive), for example Zugerberg (18km trails), Einsiedeln (25km trails), Rothenturm (20km trails) or Flumserberg (18km trails).

Tobbogan
For toboggan fun, try out the local Uetliberg (3.1 km run). In case there is no snow, ALEX will check the weather forecast for you and help you choose the place with the best snow conditions, for example Hoch-Ybrig (2.5 km run), Zugerberg (2.5 km run) or Flumserberg (3km run). ALEX can give you directions and find out where to rent your sleigh.

You are not a skier at all?

ALEX knows the best winter hiking routes and can organise a moonlight snowshoe hike for you if you like.

There are plenty of other winter activities around Zurich also. The last time Lake Zurich froze over and someone skated on it was in 1963. For guaranteed skating try the ice-rink in Thalwil, just a few minutes from ALEX. Its the perfect place to practice your Axel and Toeloop.

Otherwise, our boat can take you across the lake to the Christmas Market and the Bellevue Square Ice-rink. If it’s spectator winter sports that you prefer, its the perfect time to catch an ice hockey match at the local arena, home of the ZSC Lions. We can assist with advance tickets.
